If you are looking to save money on family holidays then one of the best ways of doing this is to get a motor home. There are many different motor homes on the market today and some of them are more like motorised caravans than motor homes. Most people have a mid-priced range vehicle, which is great for family holidays and weekends away. With a motor home you can drive where you like, when you like without having to bother about accommodation costs.

Modern motor homes are quite compact and most will sleep two to four people quite comfortably. As a rule motor homes have fewer facilities than modern caravans, which may have shower facilities and a toilet. If you park up on a good campsite then you won’t have any problems when it comes to washing and toilet facilities. Larger motor homes will have more modern conveniences but they also cost a lot more to buy and to run.

If you like camping but are not too keen on sleeping under canvas then a motor home is an ideal way of doing this. The Volkswagen camper van was among the first motor homes in the UK and these are still being made today. The Volkswagen was designed to be used for camping but was also compact enough for city driving when it wasn’t being used for a vacation.

Medium Sized Motor Homes

Medium sized motor homes are motor homes that have been developed from certain types of commercial vehicles; these often have a sliding door in the side and more space than a camper van. Medium sized motor homes have better kitchen facilities than camper vans and some of them also have wash room facilities.

Coach built motor homes are becoming more prevalent because they are good for small families or for couples wanting to tour, these motor homes usually have wash rooms and kitchens fitted as standard and can sleep up to six people. Peugeot, Fiat and Ford manufacture the coach built homes and these are becoming a regular sight on British roads. You can park up at a camp site and if you have arranged things beforehand many farmers don’t mind the occasional motor home on their land for the odd night or two.

Some motor homes have high roofed cabs as the space can be used for extra storage, including some of the extras that regular campers regard as standard for a good trip, including portable barbecue grills as well as extra bedding and folding chairs. If you enjoy driving and visiting different parts of the UK and perhaps Europe, then a motor home is a great way of doing it. A motor home gives you the freedom to go where you want when you want without having to worry about where you are going to sleep on a given night.

Motor homes are not yet as popular as caravans in the UK but they are increasing in popularity, they are more prevalent in the US, largely because there are more open spaces to cover.
